Introduction

Jasper Fforde's bestselling Thursday Next series has delighted readers of every genre with its literary derring-do and brilliant flights of fancy. In The Big Over Easy, Fforde takes a break from classic literature and tumbles into the seedy underbelly of nursery crime. Meet Inspector Jack Spratt, family man and head of the Nursery Crime Division. He's investigating the murder of ovoid D-class nursery celebrity Humpty Dumpty, found shattered to death beneath a wall in a shabby area of town. Yes, the big egg is down, and all those brittle pieces sitting in the morgue point to foul play.

"unique mystery"by kimhalti (see profile) 10/15/09

This is a unique and clever mystery in which all (or most) of the characters are nursery rhyme figures. It's a little bit silly, but we had a lively discussion.

"The Big Over Easy"by dclittle (see profile) 10/14/09

A clever & witty mystery involving nursery rhyme characters. Highly original with lots of wordplay, this is an amusing book that is entertaining to the very end.

"The Big Over Easy"by operalover (see profile) 07/18/09

A book filled with puns and references to nursery rhymes and fairy tales. Not quite to the level of social satire. A fun, humorous read, with good discussion.
