Introduction

"Quite simply one of the funniest satirical novels of the last century." —Nancy Pearl, NPR's Morning Edition

The deliriously entertaining Cold Comfort Farm is "very probably the funniest book ever written" (The Sunday Times, London), a hilarious parody of D. H. Lawrence's and Thomas Hardy's earthy, melodramatic novels. When the recently orphaned socialite Flora Poste descends on her relatives at the aptly named Cold Comfort Farm in deepest Sussex, she finds a singularly miserable group in dire need of her particular talent: organization.

"Cold Comfort Farm"by Chillin (see profile) 12/05/15

I didn't particularly like this book. It was confusing at times, and there were teasers about events that were never revealed.

"If Jane Austen had written a non-musical "Mary Poppins"..."by kekaroo (see profile) 03/24/12

"Witty" is a word that is missing from the list above and would have been my first choice. I think a lot of people get turned off by this book because there's little explanation on the cover... (read more)

"VERY unusual book-I've not read one like this one !"by brubakerjean (see profile) 09/19/07

I did not care for this book at all. I found NO humor-I guess I missed it. I forced myself to finish it.

"A tough read, but worth the time"by kruddat (see profile) 09/18/07

The first few chapters are tough to get through because of the language, but once you get through the first few chapters it gets much better. The characters are humorous and you never quite... (read more)
