Introduction

The new novel by the celebrated author of The Sunday Wife chronicles the lives of a tight-knit group of lifelong friends.

None of the Same Sweet Girls are really girls anymore and none of them have actually ever been that sweet. But this spirited group of Southern women, who have been holding biannual reunions ever since they were together in college, are nothing short of compelling. There's Julia Stovall, the First Lady of Alabama, who, despite her public veneer, is a down-to-earth gal who only wants to know who her husband is sneaking out with late at night. There's Lanier Sanders, whose husband won custody of their children after he found out about her fling with a colleague. Then there's Astor Deveaux, a former Broadway showgirl who simply can't keep her flirtations in check. And Corinne Cooper, whose incredible story comes to light as the novel unfolds.

I had book club at my house and made plenty of goodies from the book. Tomato pie, chicken salad, cheesecake, pound cake, rum punch an Sparkling Apple cider which they drank there last toast with Corrine. Also one of the member's gave me a grown to wear declaring me the queen for the night. I made a trivia question game up about the book. At the end of the get together I gave everyone a pot with a seed of a flower to plant like Corrine gave to her friends there last time together.

If i lived somewhere close to one, i'd love to have a bookclub in an artsy part of town at an outdoor cafe. Maybe check out some gourd art?

"About a woman with Cancer"by Carrie K. (see profile) 05/16/10

This book had many story lines that never finished out, the end was drug out about one of the characters dying of cancer. I felt sick when it was over and depressed. It was like the author was under... (read more)

I loved this book. I wanted to hang with the SSGs at their gatherings and drink rum punch and give Miles a piece of my mind. I loved all the girls (well, some less than others), and loved their stories.... (read more)

It was nice to read a book that I picked out for a change of pace. This was a hard book to put down. It was about the enduring friendship of six women who met at college and are now in their late forties.... (read more)

Our overall impression was the book is a wonderful account and testimony of the bonds of friendship between women. Particularly the bonds that form during the college years, when boundaries... (read more)
