Introduction

(Nineteen-year-old Nayeli works at a taco shop in her Mexican village and dreams about her father, who journeyed to the US to find work. Recently, it has dawned on her that he isn't the only man who has left town. In fact, there are almost no men in the village--they've all gone north. While watching The Magnificent Seven, Nayeli decides to go north herself and recruit seven men--her own "Siete Magnficos"--to repopulate her hometown and protect it from the bandidos who plan on taking it over.

Filled with unforgettable characters and prose as radiant as the Sinaloan sun, INTO THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH is the story of an irresistible young woman's quest to find herself on both sides of the fence.

Most of our members liked, but did not love, this book, but it provides insight into the issue of illegal immigrants from a Mexican point of view. It is very thought-provoking and timely.

This was a fun book with great characters. Even though the book was mostly light and fun, it inspired great discussion about the realities of illegal immigration.

Great for a book club discussion. I found the book fun to read and the characters interesting. It touches on enough topics for a book club to have plenty to discuss.

This book addresses the immigration issue from a different perspective: a small Mexican town needs its men back from the U.S. to protect it from thugs. It is told with interesting characters, who demonstrate... (read more)
