This book addresses the immigration issue from a different perspective: a small Mexican town needs its men back from the U.S. to protect it from thugs. It is told with interesting characters, who demonstrate the heartbreak, poverty, and humor of the situation. I didn't attend this review, but I understand it provoked a lot of discussion on both sides.

Great for a book club discussion. I found the book fun to read and the characters interesting. It touches on enough topics for a book club to have plenty to discuss.

This was a fun book with great characters. Even though the book was mostly light and fun, it inspired great discussion about the realities of illegal immigration.

Most of our members liked, but did not love, this book, but it provides insight into the issue of illegal immigrants from a Mexican point of view. It is very thought-provoking and timely.

Read as part of the Open Canon Bookclub hosted by Wiley Cash. Published 9 years ago but so very timely as there are so many border discussions today. This story may provide a different perspective. The story recounts the journey of Nayeli and her friends. They journey to the U.S. to recruit men to return to their Mexican village to save it and bring new life back into their community. Funny and poignant- very good read.
