As a fan of Ken Follett, I thoroughly enjoyed the Fall of Giants. This story follows the lives of 8 main charactters as they interact in the times prior and during World War I. The only criticism I have is that near the end the details of the peace negotiations get a little lengthy. Overall, this was a great book. If you loved Pillars of the Earth, you will thoroughly enjoy this epic.

I was very much looking forward to this book after thouroughly enjoying Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. However, I think Follett was trying too hard for this one. Hard to read. Lots and lots and lots and lots of war scenes. There is no compelling villan, and no feisty heroine. There are some likable and interesting characters, but in the end very large cast without too much to tie them together. I guess I learned more than I ever hoped to about the causes of World War I, and some of the things that came out of it--the Bolshevik Revolution. I just didn't enjoy the book when I really expected to enjoy it.

I too expected to love this book as I had Pillars of Earth and End of Time, but found myself uninvolved with the characters and the plot. Lot of history but lacked intrigue and interplay of characters of the others.

Ken Follett has achieved a wonderful 20th century historical narrative, focused on families in Great Britian, Russia and the US during the opening and subsequent years of World War I. The reader becomes part of each family as they struggle with their lives and the impact of the war on them as well as get a behind the scenes view of politics and culture. Each family and their live are intertwined in the delicate fabric of the times. Mr. Follett's writing style is detailed, yet not overly burdensome. You really get a sense of each character and understand their reactions to the events of the times that shape their destiny. I cannot wait for the next book. My only complaint was the length of the book. It was a lot to read over one month.

of the Great War from different point of view. I learned a lot about that period of time and at the same time I enjoyed the story of different families from different countries and/or backgrounds. A must read. K Follet got it!! as usual...

I've read almost everything Follet has written. The only real disappointment for me was his sequel to "Pillars of the Earth." "World Without End" plodded along and failed to excite. "Fall of Giants" is a well-written historical fiction with well-developed characters and wonderful insight to the era. I really enjoy how Follet educates his reader without droning. Can't wait for the other books in this series!!

Learned so much reading this book. Really enjoyed the WWI history.
