Our club loved the main character of this book as well as the character development. The descriptions of 19th century Manhattan easily bring you into that time and place.

A brilliant story about the beginning of the NYC police department and the first detectives. Characters are well written, storyline is full of mystery, and the ending is surprising. This is a book that is a little slow to start, but gets rolling and doesn't stop.
