Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Revenge-Brian Freeman, author; Scott Brick, narrator
China developed a weapon of great power, an AI database. It is the ultimate AI weapon and can interpret thousands of clues and facts the ordinary person cannot. The files for this database can sift through data points faster and far better than any human. It is an extraordinary tool for spy networks.
Jason Bourne was once known as David Webb. He is also known as Cain. He stole the files. Treadstone has them now. Shadow, the head of the company, took them for herself. They are in her personal safe and can be used to research thousands of clues to identify crimes and criminals, to find information about events that seem to have no facts associated with them. Treadstone can use the files to wipe out spy networks and criminal activity endangering America’s security. Treadstone is a secret arm of the CIA.
China wants the files back. The Opera Men are a group of vicious assassins who wear grotesque masks. They work with someone called Bai Ze to recapture the files. Bai Ze heads up the Chinese spy operation. He is known for brutality and ruthlessness, but that is all anyone knows about Bai Ze. No one knows Bai Ze’s real identity or where Bai Ze is hiding. Some who came in contact with him, eight years ago, seem to have lost all the memories of their prior life and do not remember meeting him or how they came to lose their memory. Jason Bourne is one of those whose memory is gone. However, he was also shot afterwards, and the head wound robbed him further of his memories. He has complete amnesia about his former life as David Webb. He has tried consistently to restore his memories with the help of the Treadstone CIA Psychiatrist, Dr. Mo Panov. Bourne is searching for Bai Ze and his prior life.
Alvin Bakk is a billionaire who is able to find out anything about anyone with his technological tools. He can track and research everyone. He trusts no one. Bakk also wants the files. He is associated with DARPA, a company that researches memory manipulation.
Bodies keep piling up. Violence prevails alongside erotic sex scenes. Actually, sex seems to be the prevailing cure-all activity after scenes of tragedy and brutality. The honey trap theme is alive and well and is used often. Female characters are as vicious as the male characters and as devoted to their goals.
The scenes rapidly begin and end. They go off in myriad directions, often without an obvious connection. Characters keep being introduced. Sometimes it was hard to follow the thread of the story and was necessary to suspend disbelief because of what occurred. This is not your typical Jason Bourne novel.
