This book is a great read, and deals in a thought-proviking matter with the subjects of prejudice - both racial and gender - and the nature of truth. The characters are convincingly drawn, interesting, complex people. Many in our group had been teachers at one time or another and found the high school context to be very realistic. The author had clearly drawn on her 29 years of experience as a teacher. The writing itself is a delight - Donna has a wonderful sense of style.

"Relevant to TODAY" by KeaKiya (see profile) 05/23/12

Addresses issues we wish (or pretend) no longer existed. Excellent use of main character and her search for understanding of her own personal and family challenges as a lens through which to become engaged with the larger issues in school, community, and nation.
Excellent portrayal of people, places, and processes in a southern US small town!
