A difficult book to read as it is written in Irish dialect. The characters were quite well described but none of them particularly likeable.
The author seemed to have problems with her adjectives! I do understand why a certain amount of bad language is used in literature, but I think maybe she went too far - or is this really how Irish people speak.
Ignoring the bad language, I'm afraid I still wasn't too keen on this book and would only give it a 3

I mostly liked this book. It took a while to get into it but then I became interested in the characters and wanted to know what happened to them. Most of the characters were likeable. Although Dean and Shauna were the love of each of their lives they were beset with bad luck, misunderstandings and bad timings. There were quite a few twists to it and I was not expecting the last one. Dean's last letter to Shauna was simp.y written but said everything. It was so sad. I really liked the title. I score it 7.

I found the start of the book was hard to follow as there was too many people and too many names to remember. As the story continued it all fell into place. The story spans 8 years and tell the story of Dean and Shauna. Dean had a very sad up bringing caused by parents alcohol problems and Shauna's life was pretty normal. They make up a foursome with Elaine and Mark and go everywhere together. It is mostly about young love and it seems to me it is more of a teenagers book except for the f-c-k word of wich there was more than enough of! I give it 5 out of 10

I found the story line good as it threaded it's way from their first teenage attraction to many decades into their future to a very sad ending. It's the thwarted love story of Shauna and Dean. They should have built on their teenage "love at first sight " and had a happy life together but sadly there were many twists and turns that kept them apart until Deans death. I give this book a 7.

I must admit that this was one of the harder books to get into that I have read lately. For me it was a very slow burner which did not really have much action or drama taking place. It did capture my attention a bit more after about 80 or more pages where things seemed to make a bit more sense but sadly with the book being only 243 pages I felt it took too long to make a better impression. I found the storyline to be quite unrealistic and the characters were not really "built" up enough to make them leave much of an impression. I will say that I was not expecting the twist at the end which I found to be quite sad but that was probably the biggest impact the whole book made on me. I'm not sure whether rereading the book again knowing more about the characters and the storyline would improve my thoughts on the book but I don't think that I could actually reread it again. With a book this long it would normally take me a day to read but this one ended up taking 3/4 days as I just kept losing interest. Unfortunately I couldn't honestly give it any more than a 3/10

Sadly I did not enjoy this book at all. It's written in Irish dialect with an awful lot of strong swear words, neither of which enhanced the reading experience for me. None of the characters were particularly likeable and the chopping and changing of time scales and number of characters was just confusing. That coupled with a storyline which I don't find interesting made for a very disappointing read for me. I can only give it a 3 our of 10 and that's being generous.

Average score : 4.5 out of 10
