Very well written, moves fast but graphic and disturbing in the violence.

This book intrigued me from the first page. Although it was well written, there was a little too much violence for my taste. Rape, incest, torture, brutality against women, are not themes I want to read a lot about. That's why I won't read the next two books in the series.

"Intrigued with Lisbeth Salander" by kbertel (see profile) 10/15/10

I was fascinated with Lisbeth Salander. In school, we had many students with characteristics of Asperger's syndrome. Lisbeth has many of the syndrome-y characteristics. She is intriguing.

I like the book after the first few chapters. Very intriguing. Wanted to know more about the characters' personalities and that is what kept me reading.

Well written, intelligent mystery with enough twists to keep you guessing. Though the violence is disturbing and graphic, it portrays the dark side of sexual domination and develops complex female characters who find very different ways of coming to terms with the aftermath of this violence in their lives. Not a book for the faint of heart.

I loved this book! It was hard to put down. I can't wait to read the next one.

"scary" by deenafrog (see profile) 10/21/10

Kept me up way past my bedtime. gave me nightmares and made me want to move to Sweden. Fun time.

"Slow to Start," by KarenC (see profile) 10/23/10

but definitely worth your time and effort to finish. The middle, what I consider the non-financial sections, is gripping and graphic in spots and a real page-turner. The end has a lot of financial intricacies, but is informative and interesting enough to carry you through to the end.

"A real page turner" by lbchiang (see profile) 11/01/10

I bought this book when it first came out and then I heard people talking about it as scary and violent. I was taken back and decided not to read it. I started a 2+ hour commute recently and just grabbed the first book I found. I was interested since the movies were in limited release and the third book was released so I picked it up...NOW I can't put it down. I hate it when the bus arrives at the terminal. I want to read more. Who did it? How? What will happen next? The graphic scenes distract from the story and are necessary for us to feel the emotion or to relate with the characters, we can do that with the descriptions.

Well written. Not what I expected at all.

"Gracious where did that come from?!?" by Tonia (see profile) 11/17/10

Although well written, this is not light reading that will make you feel good when you finish. Characters were well defined - so much so that I felt pain in my soul for some. Hard to believe that humans do such horrific things to each other. I did continue reading and the second book in the series is enlightening. I highly recommend going deeper into the story with the next book.

"A sick story" by hdcook (see profile) 11/24/10

If I was not reading this as a book club book I would have thrown it away half way through the book. I have no interest in reading books that involve twisted minds and violent rape.

"With brief scenes of sexual violence, a little over-hyped, but not bad." by mystryrdr (see profile) 01/19/11

Some members were really turned off by the sexual assault scenes. But, most said they would probably read the next two anyway. It was easy to keep reading, but I felt personally, that I could have put it down and not finished it at any time if it weren't for the book club. So, a bit of a disappointment considering the mass hysteria over it.

"Slow starter but turns into a real page turner." by cherylynnmartens (see profile) 02/01/11

Our bookclub really enjoyed this book. All agreed that it started slow. The characters were very believable but somewhat bothersome. It was a great discussion.

Great story, fascinating characters...starts off a little slow and complex but takes off quickly. Couldn't stop reading it!!

"Not sure why people love this triology so much" by erpennin (see profile) 02/21/11

My book club was torn, some members really enjoyed it. For me, it was so slow in the beginning I had to force myself to keep reading. It does pick up in the end but for a large group, we lost many members and they did not even finish the book.

The first chapter was a little slow, but once you get going it great. You'll definitely want to read the next two books of the series.

"A good read but surprisingly graphic" by supnatmom (see profile) 05/08/11

I enjoyed his writing. He is very detailed so if you don't have time to read, this is not the book for you. I did not like the graphic violence depicted in the book. I also thought the end of the book was about 200 pages too long

Extended scene setting can be a bit tiresome at times, but worth the effort. The first book takes well into the 200s to get interesting. Stick it out!

"Interesting but too graphic in an unnecessary way" by nextchapter (see profile) 01/30/13

The story and the development of the characters were written well. The story was interesting and created an eagerness to continue reading but the graphic description of sexual violence was unnecessary and reflected the author's inability to create sympathy and revenge in a creative way that forced your imagination to figure things out. Abrasive, leaning towards a need for shock value rather than to develop a story and characters.
