Richard Preston's nonfiction is not only interesting; it is as unputdownable as any thriller. This was true for THE HOT ZONE and again for THE DEMON IN THE FREEZER. Now I can say it again for his CRISIS IN THE RED ZONE.

The book begins back in 1976 when the Ebola crisis began in Africa. Preston went over this in more detail in THE HOT ZONE.

Now fast forward to 2014. The Ebola crisis that most of us thought was under control is rearing its ugly head again, again in Africa.

We don't just hear the scientific facts about Ebola. Preston personalizes it. The people working on the front lines with this monster, the doctors, the nurses, the ambulance drivers, the gravediggers, the scientists, the epidemiologists, etc., are the story.

Preston also writes about future epidemics, which I was especially interested in, considering that CRISIS IN THE RED ZONE was written pre-COVID-19. Well, it wasn't exactly pre-COVID-19, but it was before most of us knew about it. Let's hope he writes a book about the COVID-19 crisis.
