"Wonderful!" by Lgriffies (see profile) 08/07/10

This was a wonderful book about the generosity of the human spirit shown in small but meaninful ways during very dark days for many Americans. The characters could be your neighbor, that nice lady you see at the grocery store, or the man at the coffe shop . . . would you be this generous?

"Feel good, little known 9/11 backstory" by skinnyatlas (see profile) 10/13/16

Had the potential to be a fabulous book but the factual style got in the way of character development. Wonderful story of ingenuity and generosity in face of adversity

You don't have to have been alive on September 11, 2001 to appreciate and maybe even love THE DAY THE WORLD CAME TO TOWN. Even though I was, it's now 25 years later, and I still loved it. A story like this deserves the highest rating.

After the US was attacked on 9/11, US airspace was cleared. In one case, thirty-eight jetliners that were coming to the US were forced to land in Canada, specifically, in Gander, Newfoundland. THE DAY THE WORLD CAME TO TOWN is the true story of the kindness shown by everyone in this small town to hundreds of people from all over the world. Plus, they took care of the animals in the cargo holds. What a sharp contrast these events were to the horror going on in New York at that same time!

We'd all like to think that we'd be the same as those people in Gander. I know of some who were given that opportunity when they invited stranded passengers to stay in their homes. So maybe we would measure up.

This is such a pleasant read, especially in light of all the horror stories around that day.
