Our book group read Ecstasy. It was so interesting learning about Alma Mahler. Many in the group were unfamiliar with classical music and certainly didn't know much about Gustav Mahler. It was wonderful to feel like we were living in that creative time period in Vienna. We did a lot of comparing of Alma's position as a creative woman held in check by the male dominated society to our society a little over 100 years later. We found that some things haven't changed that much. I personally loved the feeling of being present while Gustav conducted his music. What a thrilling vision that was for me. All of that creativity in one place at one time must have been beyond thrilling. No wonder Alma wanted to be a part of that ride. This book makes me want to take a trip to Vienna and walk the same streets as Alma and Gustav.
