A wonderful look at the hight of political correctness in the 90s, refracted through the life of the central character, the choices he made in his youth, in a very different era, and the consequences of that decision. Glad I read this book. It had been a long time since I read anything by Philip Roth. He continues to be a vey provocative story teller.

ever get into a movie then someone tells you what happens next? Philip Roth starts with a preposterous premise and the story goes down hill from there. Near page 60, he tells you the two characters who are talking are dead soon. Really? they were the only likeable characters, I stopped reading after that.
