This is a story of abuse in more ways than one. It details the life of the author and the patterns of her abuse. I believe the title relates to only 5% of the book about the sister. Although the book should be titled differently, it was a good biography for women and the stuggles that can go on behind closed doors.

Don't waste your time. This book is nothing like the title or the preview on the back. The most interesting character in the book is her murdered sister who the author only begins to talk about 3/4 of the way in the book and even then does not do a good job of it. The book offered no insight or support or help to those who have or are experiencing abuse in any form. The author was self absorbed. Everyone in our bookclub thought it was terrible.

Upon reading the back cover summary of this book, I was anticipating reading a book on a murder, the background leading up to the murder, the investigation and trial regarding the murder and the subsequent aftermath. HOWEVER,

Janine Latus has used the premise of her younger sister Amy's murder as a bait to tell the story of her own violent and abusive life and marriage. Amy is a side character, at best, that lingers on the fringes of Janine's life and story.

There is minimal mention of Amy's murder story at the end of the book and even then, Janine manages to make it more about her and how the murder affected her rather than actually telling Amy's story.

If you are interested in reading a book about a woman who grew up in an abusive, dysfunctional family who went on to have little, if no sense of self-worth and was sexually & emotionally abused throughout the majority of her adulthood and then a brief scan on her leaving her husband, then this book is for you. If you are actually expecting to read a book about a woman murdered by a partner and how that came about or how it was solved, skip this book.

"Author's writes about her and her younger sisters abuse by men" by Wits-End (see profile) 09/24/10

Two sisters who grew up in home with weird father allows men to abusive them. Each sister is telling the other one they should not take it but neither sister is talking about there own abusive by their mates. It insightful because it shows how we can see others behaviors but not or own.

I was expect more of the story to be about the sister relationship with her killer.

a fast read and a discussion worthy topic on the effects of women raised by a weird/abusive father and how it impacts the relationship decisions that ultimately shape thier life (and death)

This book is nothing like the previews suggest. I was hoping for a completely different story.
