One day, at the end of field hockey practice, Evie disappears, and Lizzie is the last person to talk to her. What happened to Evie? Girls at school speculate about what "really" happened, and Evie remembers details that make her wonder if she "really" knew her best friend. The story takes on menacing turns as unknown parts of Evie's life come to the surface. The author tells a convincing tale of awakening young womanhood and the power girls find from their budding sexuality.
