This book is a different take on the politics of England during the time right after Henry Tudor took the crown. The York supporters weren't happy that Henry Tudor had taken the throne, so there were plots by the Yorks and Lancasters to regain it. This book is about one of those plots. The main character, the pretender, starts out as a 10-year-old boy who has been hidden with a farming family. He has no idea he is the son of one of the York brothers until men come to take him away from the only home and family he has known. The story is told through the eyes of this young man. You live his life with him; the confusion when he's 10, the confusion of who to trust of his adolescence, the bawdy environment of the young women who want to be in his circle when he is made king. He is bounced around between political factions, being threatened with death at the hands of Henry Tudor. Then it ends with ignoring him after he reaches adulthood. Wonderful historical re-telling of these tumultuous times! I loved it!
