A SHAMEFUL STORY BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN

A regular boy is abandoned into a mental asylum. In order that he might survive, he began to hide his pills in his jacket. He had to avoid the shock treatments so his fractured memory might return. Based on a real person this is also the history of the institution of New Zealand's Seacliff Mental Hospital and the way people viewed those who were hidden behind walls. It’s a shameful story, but it is a satisfying one, well-paced and beautifully written.

A heartbreaking story indeed.

This story is about one of today's ‘lost children’ forgotten or abandoned by their families. The author says it is based on a true story and it well could be. The tale follows Malcolm from childhood when he is abandoned to a mental hospital, and beyond. Disturbing and sometimes profound look at our society.t Follow Malcolm as he finally ‘frees the regular boy within’. Heart-rending but well worth reading, with a happy ending.
