Maggie O’Hallaran leaves Ireland with her 13 year old brother to find, not only her father, but a better life in NY. Upon arrival her father is nowhere to be found. She follows the address she has and is given a meager place to stay with a family in a tenement in NY. She is befriended by a nice young man, Brandon, who own a grocery store. He wants to help, but Maggie is to proud. However, when her brother gets mixed up with a street gang things go horribly worn and she is forced to accept his help.
This is a wonderful story about hope, dreams and the willingness to take chances.
