I love reading how Antonia's life becomes unfolded. It is a beautiful story about a young girl's life that has many hardships. Many wonderful lessons are revealed as Antonia moves on with her life after dealing with many loses ,but remains happy and content when others would of given up.

This is a great book to use to get to know your book club members because you can ask everyone to tell about their heritage. We are a midwest group so this story spoke to us of our strong women ancestors who suffered so we can have all the good things we have today.

This book has stood the test of time. It's a classic for everyone!!

While some parts where beautifully written, I found it too slow. And it left me wanting more of a plot and story line to bring it all together. I guess if you have a love for the prairie, than you will love this book.

Willa Cather's beautifully written description of the prairie and the lives of the inhabitants in the late 1800's. The book is narrated by a man, who has the greatest admiration and respect for the females in the book. It is easy to get swept away in the landscape she describes.

three and 1/2 stars. Read this in high school and just re read for a book club. I found that one reviewer states it didn't have much of a plot but that the words create pictures of the west. i would say that's an accurate description of this book. It is a story about home and homesickness and numerous other smaller stories about immigrants and their life when they come to the west. I sometimes find writers go overboard on "descriptions" and the story gets boring. But I don't think this does that - you get enough description of what it was like to live the hard life in the west without being ready to toss the book down. And its just the right length. Glad I reread this book.
