This was a great book interesting and inspirational. It led to some great discussion regarding the physical challenges in the story, the risk for women in attempting such a challenge on the road alone, and the sense of personal accomplishment.

I love novels that combine good suspense and historical fact and Matthew Pearl is a master! This book is so informative about the time period at the very beginning of the industrial revolution in America, but it also is a story of intrigue and mystery. Very well written, engaging!

This book is disturbing and fascinating and I could not put it down. Frighteningly insightful. If Holden Caulfield grew up and had kids he could be a parent at this dinner. So subtly twisted!

This is an interesting book and a story that needs to be known but unfortunately, it is told in a very slow, somewhat plodding way, which is sad because it is such an emotional situation. I had hoped to love it but the method of telling really makes it a difficult book to read.

A multi-layered, multi-generational story of a family dealing with life's ups and downs, centered around the aging matriarch, who is funny and lovable, but also increasingly in need of assistance. Very endearing and insightful, exploring different family member's perspectives. An interesting and enjoyable story.
