My Reviews
This book was extremely well written, but is not something I would have picked up on my own. I enjoyed learning more about the culture of 19th century Chinese women. It made me very thankful to be born in this particular time period and country. The characters were great, but it was just one of those books that make you want to smack the main character because she is so frustrating in some of her faults.
This was a fairly interesting book. It is slow to start, but it quickly picks up after the first five chapters. The book kept me guessing as to what happened to Victoria as a child. A complete shocker for me. I'm not always a big fan of the back and forth narration of jumping from the present to the past, but for this storyline it really worked for building up details about the main character. This is a great book for any book club, because it does pose some interesting questions to the reader.
