My Reviews
I liked this book. It was told from an interesting angle and I liked where it was going. I was suprised at the ending....actually a bit disappointed that the author took it to another level near the end. I am not sure that I would recommend it, only because the ending really ruined the experience for me. I wont spoil it here, but I will say that the journey of the book was great. Sebold is a great writer and the story was insightful. I was able to follow this family through the loss and I understood their motives for things.....but the end....
I loved this book! Stockett really takes us on a journey to understand who the characters were and what motivated them. I would recommend! I even learned that it is rewarding to stand up for what you believe in, take risks and live life to only the boundaries that YOU choose.
I thought the book was well written, I could relate to Elizabeth on a number of levels. She was descriptive and I felt like I could have been with her on this trip. HOWEVER, in regards to finding oneself, or the search for spirituality, I think that she missed the mark. I felt like she was doing a lot of excersizes because she was told that she should. I also think that as a person, she didnt change because she went back to her same old ways (i.e. the sexual relationship that she was involved in). I would recommend this book to book clubs because I think it definitely creates great discussion, but this book was in no way moving, or enlightening. Decent read, time well spent.
