My Reviews

The Casual Vacancy by J. K. Rowling

Slow, Gloomy, Boring
Ms. Rowling can write much better.

Ms. Rowling seems to think all it takes to write an adult novel is the repeated use of f**k. I so wanted this to be a good read but it was terrible. Awful people with depressing lives. Can't really find any redeeming qualities at all. Loved all the Harry Potter books. This was a real disappointment.

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

On my list of favorite books

I was one of the few people who didn\\\'t love \\\"Secret Life of Bees.\\\" Liked it just didn\\\'t love it. So I wasn\\\'t super excited about this book club selection. Was I wrong! \\\"Invention of Wings\\\" is truly an excellent book. Loved the character development. Kidd really got the essence of both perspectives of southern plantation life plus the perspective of an abolitionist. Loved that Sarah was not only an abolitionist but also a feminist. Also loved that Kidd gave us an explanation of her research. Really loved this book.

Very interesting look at the super rich. Lots of unlikable characters, but unlike able characters can be very compelling. Twist and turns make this book an engrossing read.
