If you love family drama then you will love this book.
I thought the book was too long to say nothing. Patty is weak, Walter is a wuss and I didn’t think any of the characters had any redeeming qualities. The book was a disappointment and a waste of my time I couldn’t wait for it to be over. I would not recomend this book to a friend but I will say in discussing this book with others I have found other women felt like me but the men who have read this book really like it. Go figure?
This book is everything a book is supposed to be. It had an interesting story you are invested in the characters and think about them long after you have finished the book. I found myself laughing out loud, I also got angry but mostly I smiled. This would make a great chick flick and there could also be another book written from Miss Elizabeth's daughter's perspective.
I like the book. It was a quick read and interesting and the information on foot binding was fascinating. However I did think the characters could have been developed better.
I really liked this book. It was a quick read and a page turner once you get into the story. It took a little bit to get into the book because its told in Jacks 5 year old voice but it totaly works. A great book for book club provides for a good discussion.
I loved the Help and I thought this book was going to be similar. It was a mindless quick read but not what I was expecting. It won't leave you wanting more like the Help. This is a perfect beach read or something to take with you on a trip.
I truly loved this book. If you have read Loving Frank then you will like this book. I love the era and the city that this book takes place. You truly feel for Hadley and she tells a story in which you wish you could hate Ernest but you don’t, you mostly feel sad for him. Even though this book doesn’t have a happy ending for the couple you feel very satisfied with the story that is told.
If you like family drama then you will love this book. This book tells the story of family secrets, betrayals love and loss. You will cry laugh and scream. You will think of these characters long after you have finished the book.
I was very excited to read this book with all the good reviews. I enjoyed getting to know the characters but they didn't go anywhere. The book ends and there are no resolutions to the story, I was very disapointed.
I really liked this book but its not for everyone. The subject is very heavy and can be dark. The book is very well writen and I think very honest. I have pondered the subject and the characters long after I put the book down. Its the kind of book that stays with you. I liked the book but I can't say for certain how I feel about the subject it is so sad and heartbreaking but at the end of the day Kevin is still her son and what do you do with that? Very thought provoking great for discussion but be careful who you discuss it with. Its the kind of book that you either love or hate. There really is no in-between ground on this one.
