A sweet story that we selected because we wanted a "Christmasy" read for the month of December. The story was predictable, but overall it was a sweet story and a nice choice for a quick, happy read at a happy time of year.
Most members of our group loved the book! They thought it was unpredictable, suspensful, and a great love story. Others felt that the main character lacked strength and found the story to be too sappy and unbelievable. It was a great choice for discussion because there were a lot of varying viewpoints which made for a very interesting and fun meeting!
Our entire club loved this book. It was well very well written, engaging, and very exciting. Gruen accurately captured the world of the depression-area and hooked you from the very beginning with lovable, intriguing characters that make you keep coming back for more. It was hard to put the book down once you started!
Our club found that this book was very difficult to get into. All the girls were struggling to get it finished in time for the meeting. However, once they reached a certain point everyone found themselves engaged and curious as to what happened next. Well written, intriguing, detailed, and thought out. A great book as long as you can push yourself through the beginning!
