My Reviews
This book has been compared to "Gone Girl", but having read that too, I much preferred "Girl on the Train". I thought it was a better written book, was easier to follow, and the characters were better developed. The main character, although weak and flawed, did have my sympathy. I liked the twists in the plot. I liked the ending. I liked the descriptions of the London trains and city. I would recommend this book. For book clubs, I am not sure that there would be a lot of discussion, but sometimes those books do in fact promote some surprising discussions. Anyway, I thought it was enjoyable.
My Book Club will review this one in October. I enjoyed it very much. Loved both of the main characters...so sweet and likable. I have read several books on WWII because it has always been an interest to me. This one gave a different outlook/twist, looking at it from the youth, and from the French perspective. I had a preconceived thought about the French participation in the war, and this shed a whole new light on it. I thought the book was very exciting, emotional, informative and educational. Well written and deserving of the Pulitzer prize. Recommended for sure.
Wow, I loved this book. I read it immediately following "All The Light You Can See" because I had developed an interest in the French viewpoint/aspect of the war. Having recently visited France on a river cruise, I guess I was interested more in what had taken place in France. This book was a real page-turner. I loved the two sisters. Apparently, Kristen Hannah likes to write about sisters (several of her books have sisters as a theme). The book flowed so beautifully. It really showed how the German occupation in France affected the French, in this case, the women. I had no idea! German soldiers billeting in their homes, oh I can't imagine. A real eye-opener and a great book to discuss for book clubs. Don't miss it.
