The book was informative about the government and dealings in China. The story line was a bit slow to come to fruition. I was hopeful for the characters plot; however, the book was not the best for insighting great book club discussion.

This was one of the first books our book club read and after many years still remains at the top! We still refer to it. I love reading books with a historical flair...I learned so much about ancient Mandarin China while being swept away with the story line. Great discussion, plot and characters...truly significant...a must read.
