Utterly Without Merit

None of us could understand why grown women - let alone teenage girls are so crazy about this. The characters are ridiculous and one-dimentional, the plot absent. Really, really bad. Glad I got it from my library and didn't waste my money.

Great Beginning, Ultimately Disappoints

Could not put it down initially, but the last half was so bad. In our discussion, I also realized that the beginning wasn't even as good as I thought. The characters are totally one-dimentional - especially the villian. In hindsight, I'd say learning about that time period as the only things about the book. I can't even give it more than 1 star because it was completely disappointing by the end and I felt I'd wasted a lot of time reading it.

Best Travel Memoir Ever

Our club loved this book. We each laughed while reading it and reading parts to our husbands. Then, we laughed again reading parts to each other during our meeting. It was an especially good read after we'd gone through a few heavier things. Nice to take a break, although there's more than just laughs with this one.

Great Discussion Book

We have one of our best discussions ever. We're all from different places and walks of life, and it was very interesting to see the reactions. But we all did love this read. I personally could not put it down.

Cutting For Stone

As others have said, too long and too many coincidences.

Lone Survivor

I wish I could give this more stars, but the writing ruined it for me.

Water For Elephants

Wonderful writing, great story. We all loved it. Really good discussion, too. A slice of (circus) life none of us had any inkling of.

Great characters

Sometimes, the plot got a little contrived, but the characters are so original, it kept us all reading. We plan to read the next 2, as well.

Lovely Writing, But

We all thought this was extremely well written. But, only half of us could get into it/finish it. It did make for a good discussion, though.

Mixed Reviews

A few of us liked the book, the rest thought it had no purpose/point. It didn't seem to spark much of a discussion.
