It's fun to return to a classic--especially one from your childhood. Reading it through adult eyes is so enlightening. You see the adult characters in a diffrent light. The theme of friendship and sacrifice has a greater impact. E.B. White was certainly gifted at creating a sense of time and place with his vivid descriptions of a barn--the smells, the light, the sounds. Definitely worth re-reading.
The issues that Lindberg deals with--the complexity of a woman's life, are generally timeless. Her essays provide plenty of discussion points on relationships, children, marriage and simplicity/multiplicty.
