My Reviews

Middlesex: A Novel by Jeffrey Eugenides

Interesting, Dramatic, Epic
Truly about the middle sex

Provides a challenge to conventional thinking about family acceptance of gender diversity.

A sibling rivalty that serves as a metaphor for the China's current conflicts

having spent significant time in China, i can attest to the fact that this books captures the economic, political and cultural conflicts afffecting China today. The tragic tug-of-war between these two brothers over the woman they both love metaphorically captures the love of China held by both the aging Mao revolutionaries and the rising, economically driven middle class. China today remains an enigma for many Anericans. She is a country we should know well and court carefully!

Intuition by Allegra Goodman

A truly unique setting for a "thriller!"

My husband and I both read Goodman's book and found it fascinating - as long as you're not afraid of mice! :))

Anyone who has engaged in research, especially in the quest for a doctorate, knows the competitiveness of the research world. Goodman captures that suspense and all the manipulations and machinations that can go on and twists them up in suspenseful read. We had several interesting discussions about the book and the not unlikely liklihood of such a situation occurring.
