It was interesting to a point and gave a new perspective to how we may have changed dogs to suite our citified lives to their detriment. However, the author went a little beyond his love for Merle to a point that may have been more to meet the author's needs than those of his dog. The end seemed to be a series of the author trying to justify his actions. His regressions into the history of canine evolvement was a bit boring.
An excellent read appealing to a wide variety of tastes among our book club members. More discussion than some books followed and all found it gave a great insight into the period of time and the people who made cities what they are today, for better or worse.
Book may have a plot but is lost between numerous side trips through Danish history and political descriptions. This truely became the only book not one member finished nor even came close.
