Not a group discussion book but Sara gave a spectacular insight behind the scenes of the circus intertwined with a most unforgettable story. Beautiful ending.... Brilliant!
We haven't read too many books on asian culture, but this book takes you inside the walls of a household of dominating men and how the females endured pain and suffering to be worthy of a husband. As painful as it was to read how their little feet were bound everyday, it really opened up our eyes into their world.
This was a good easy read without it being confusing becasue of the change of characters in each chapter. There were parts of the book that we all thought was pointless but nonetheless kept you reading. Interesting insight of blacks in the 60's as housekeepers.
Never knew of the roundup of Vel D Hiv. This book brought to light the involvement of the French in the horrific days and months leading up to the execution of innocent men, women and children. As heart wrenching it was to learn of the brutal treatment of the Jews it was very informative and an inspiring story of how Sarah was helped...and how she never gave up hope.
