My Reviews
I felt conflicted about all the tarot card information. I understood why it was needed because I knew nothing about them but I also felt distracted. I felt I missed story/ply details thinking about the tarot cards and their meaning.
Grit of Elsa was encouraging. Amazing how many parallels there are to the present day.
Open Bar by Dan Schorr was a meaningful and thought-provoking read, even as it explored a very difficult topic. Set within a university facing a sexual misconduct and abuse scandal, the novel thoughtfully brings together the emotional, social, and political complexities of the story.
I was especially moved by the depth of the characters and the author’s clear, engaging writing style. The strong women in the book stood out to me as a powerful source of courage and hope, helping bring the story to a thoughtful close.
I also want to sincerely thank BookMovement for providing copies of the book to Key Women Educators and for making it possible for us to welcome Dan to our book club meeting. It was such a pleasure to interact with him, learn more about his writing process, and hear his reflections on the book. That conversation made the reading experience even more special.
The interwoven subplots added depth and richness to the novel, and I finished the book not only impressed by the story but also grateful for the opportunity to discuss it with the author. I look forward to reading more from Dan Schorr in the future.
