The Coast of Akron : A novel by Adrienne Miller

There are some mildy funny and moving scenes, but overall this book just didn't appeal to me.

Unless there was a deeper level of meaning that I completely missed, I cannot see why anyone would really enjoy this book. It seems like Adrienne Miller wanted to write something quirky and outrageous, but these characters would only be outrageous if you... had never left Akron, Ohio. Two characters are (shockingly!) gay, a few are depressed, some are confused and one (even more shocking!)actually likes Mondays. I think some major editing could have sharpened the book more, whittled it down to, maybe, a short story. There were some interesting themes dealing with art, ownership, fidelity, love. But they are never fully developed; like some of the main characters, the meaning remains shallow.
