My Reviews

Normal People: A Novel by Sally Rooney

Beautiful, Addictive, Pointless

I found this book uncomfortable reading partially because it is different from the sort of book I would read normally. I think I prefer more escapism. I never really warmed to the characters although I don¢??t think I was supposed to but I was uncomfortably reminded of my teenage self initially and latterly frustrated by their satanism and lack of empowerment of either of the characters to change their respective paths. Perhaps an interesting narrative on the impact of abuse and how men and women talk different languages and class that goes against the grain for me because I believe these things can be overcome by better communication and self-awareness and I found it ultimately quite depressing.
