A brilliant book but so not my style

This is a book you either love or cannot plod through. Its a mythical allegory with many characters and plot twists that can leave you scratching your head. Nonetheless, I can understand why it has been acclaimed, but my entire group could not get into it.

Short stories that don't leave you short.

I am not normally a fan of short stories. These are well-written and show insight into a different culture.

What you don't know about medical research and medical ethics

This non-fiction reads like a fiction, integrating scientific facts with the real life people affected by medical research. In addtion to telling the compelling story of three generations of Lackses (a poor black tobacco farming family in Virginia), it raises moral and legal questions about the definition of life, ownership of cells, medical research. A must read.

Optimistic, Fun
A modern take on 19th century coming of age novels.

This well written debut novel by Justin Kramon clearly shows the influences of Dickens and John Irving, who he admits are writers he admires. This story of a girl's coming of age amidst a number of odd, quirky characters takes place in an indermined period of time, which leaves the reader free of political distractions.
