My Reviews

I thought it added nicely to the overall plot but kind of ran off with the story of Felurian, although I understand that may have been the point. It does seem on first reading to be quite random which parts of the story he decides to make important and which he decides to just skip over. I think Hemme becoming Chancellor gives a pretty clear idea of how he’ll eventually leave the university (I’ve seen some grumbles about how this story never answered how he was expelled from the university, but he was expelled, it was simply overturned. So I wouldn’t necessarily expect an academic punishment to be the reason he leaves the school, but I think Hemme will be involved). I’ll also be curious to see how the Adem training comes into play, and I’m starting to suspect what’s in the thrice-locked chest. Also, I have this “out-of-left-field” theory that Denna’s patron is Haliax. That’s why he was there when the wedding was destroyed, that’s why he’s the type to beat her often, and that’s why he’s working with her to write a song that paints him as a tragic hero instead of a villain and why singing that song hasn’t brought the Chandrian down on her.
