My Reviews

Adventurous, Dramatic, Interesting
The ending disappointed me.

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini

Informative, Dramatic, Insightful
A beautiful and devastating story about two women's lives

South Beach: The Novel by Brian Antoni

Our overall rating for this book is 2.5.

There are too many other great books to choose from for a discussion. Our book club found it worthwhile reading but wouldn't recommend it.

The Glass Castle - A Memoir by Jeanette Walls

Interesting, Inspiring, Dramatic
Our overall rating for this book is 4.8.

The behavior of the parents in this true story is so bizzare. It's amazing that the author turned out to be as normal and successful as she is.

Loving Frank: A Novel by Nancy Horan

Informative, Interesting, Dramatic
The book was well written and made us all more interested in Frank Lloyd Wright's life and his work.

Several members of our book club thought the book was tedious and slow moving in places. A couple of us (me included) thought it was a wonderful book.

Three Weeks With My Brother by Nicholas Sparks

I loved the way he told .the tragic story of his family

I now have a better understanding of Nicholas Sparks' writing. This was a beautiful and tragic story of his family's life. I believe Nicholas Sparks is a very remarkable person.

A wonderful story of an Arizona pioneer woman's life

This book is written in the form of a diary by Sarah. Her difficult life is beautifully recorded in her own uneducated words. It's a great story.

Moloka'i: A Novel by Alan Brennert

Informative, Inspiring, Interesting
Beautifully told story of the exile of leprosy victims

This is one of the best books I have ever read.

Julia's Chocolates by Cathy Lamb

Fun, Romantic, Inspiring
Delightful and thought provoking. Everyone in our book club liked it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It handled serious problems yet still was amusing.

Dramatic, Insightful, Interesting
Another thoughtful and inspiring book by Jodi Picoult

This was a terribly sad story told from the point of view of each major character. The ending was shocking. Our book club enjoyed it and thought it was very thought provoking.

Stalking Susan: A Novel by Julie Kramer

Adventurous, Interesting, Fun
This was a very predictable murder mystery.

I enjoyed the book but would not recommend it for another book club to read. It was just another predictable murder/mystery story. It was more interesting for our book club because the story is set in Minneapolis and St. Paul which is not far from where we live.

Pointless, Slow, Dark
The chapters were very fragmented with little in the way of a story.

Like the title says - fragments of a young Chinese girl's life. It didn't tell much of a story. One of the members of our book club thought the author was on drugs when she wrote it.

Inspiring, Informative, Insightful
A somewhat difficult read but with a beautiful message

The main character, Greg Mortenson, is a phenomenal person. He has started several schools in Pakistan. I agree completely with his message: the best way to fight terrorism is to educate the children instead of bombing them. I think this book should be required reading for every member of Congress. The book isn't an easy read but definitely worth reading.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer, Annie Barrows

Informative, Fun, Interesting
I loved the way the people came together and helped keep each other going during that horrible time.
