My Reviews
This was the first book read at a new book club, thus we only had 5 readers for this book. 2 people loved this book, 2 were so-so and I disliked it. The narrative is split into 2 perspectives but I thought the author did a terrible job integrating different voices/personalities into the prose. I had to keep going back to check which of the main characters was narrating. That got annoying and did not speak well for the authors character development. I also disliked highly how women in this book were portrayed as weak and dependent. Clearly though, people like this book...so I say give it a shot.
This story is engaging and Janet Fitch's prose draws you into every single page. I read this for the first time 6 years ago and I still love this book.
This book grabs whatever perspectives you might have and toys with them. I agree that this book will be a good discussion book for clubs. While the story drags slightly at times, it is a very good read. I was so surprised to find that this was written by a man.
