Our book club, bar none, everyone felt this was the best book that they had ever read... left you feeling like something epic had happened in your life!

I had to read this book in two days (I had loaned it to someone who took it on vacation... ) so I was sort of on the hook to read it quickly! WELL, I could not put the book down (hardly!) I have to get up at 5:30 in the morning... I was well up until midnight one of the two nights... Did NOT want the novel to end. The story takes place during WWII and that is a backdrop for the reason the person whose perspective the book is written, ends up in Scotland. Maddie, is a "high-society" girl because she married into a family with a name... well, we all come to find out what a cad she is married to (he didn't fall far from his nutter mother and father...) NUFF said... you WILL enjoy :)

Book started off slow... but had to in order to build main character's personality. I should add it also became fun with the travels on the river with the many characters that "tagged along".
