The character, Mary Russell, is adventurous, intelligent, cunning & bold. Our club enjoyed the detailed history of Japan woven into the story of intrigue and mystery. The dialog is well written and the Haiku poetry at the beginning of each chapter were among our favorites. It is a worthy read but might be enjoyed more if the first books of this series by Laurie R. King are read.
