My Reviews

The Little Women by Katharine Weber

There were aspects of this book I didn't like, but others did, and it provoked good discussion.

This book had a good premise, and I enjoyed the story. There is a twist in the book, however, which I did not like. The real author has made one of the sisters in the story the fictional author of this book. The other two sisters are reading the book (apparently at the same time the reader is), and there are "author's notes" by the fictional author interspersed throughout the book where she is discussing and/or arguing with the other two sisters about what is written. I found this distracting, gimicky, and unnecessary. These "notes" interrupted the flow of the book too much for me (somewhat like actors in a movie pausing and arguing about how they are making the movie, then going back into the story). The story itself could have carried the reader's interest without it. However, other readers enjoyed this twist, and it provoked good discussion.
