As the reader, I felt sad and fearful when Betsy was abruptly pulled away from her stable and loving foster parent, Momma Cope, only to be placed with her dysfunctional biological family and abusive father. Betsy\'s strong will to survive, courage and hope was inspiring! It was clear that Betsy was choosing to not let the abuse and betrayal define her and/or become her \"story.\"
