This novel is a roller coaster ride of many emotions. Brenda grew up in a strict home until the age of 13 when her father died of cancer. Her mother went into a debilitating depression and Brenda became her caregiver. At the age of 21 she married, Philip Ray, a man 10 years older than her. He was handsome, exciting, brilliant and adventuresome. She was willing to do anything to please Philip and the first 10 years was a marvelous fairy tale. A surgery, addiction and his creativity brought fear, cocaine, his death and leaving her in debt did not cripple Brenda. She found that she was much stronger than she thought. A solo trip to Guatemala, being kidnapped at gunpoint by military commandos assuring her death and her determination to survive prepared her for the rest of her life. Upon her return to the states, she took on the powerful businessmen who had dismissed her and did a hostile takeover of a public company. There was no stopping her.

This is a very intense novel. It’s easy to read and encouraging.
