I liked this selection because it was different than anything we have been reading. As I was reading, I kept changing my mind about what genre I was experiencing - part mystery, part romance, part fantasy - a little of each. Very captivating read.
An interesting look at South African culture and, to an extent, social politics. Members found the ending unsatisfying, but we had a good discussion of character development and the institutions embedded in race relations.
Book delivered much more than anticipated. All Club members were enthusiastic, and discussion moved from donkeys, to all types of pet stories to musings about our compassion for animals vs humans. Great discussion starter.
