Suggestions for reading (and getting through) WOLF HALL
by paintbabe (see profile) 08/26/14
If your book club chooses to read WOLF HALL, the discussion leader can help out by suggesting: 1) members view the mini-series The Tudors (though historically incorrect in places) as it helps set the tone (atmosphere, environment of court life, introduces the main characters). You can see The Tudors via Netflix or rent it from the public library. Pay attention to Season 1. 2) Suggest members Google "Tudor - dynasty" from Wikipedia. Very helpful to read and get a sense of the timeline and the characters. 3) Some members got confused by the style of Hilary Mantel's writing of switching back and forth between the first person and third person narration. Explain this to the book club right before you begin reading Wolf Hall.

"Can be a tough read for some but well worth it"by Joanne S. (see profile) 08/26/14

"Thorough historical research combined with brilliant prose..."by Kate E. (see profile) 08/31/12

You will feel like you know what it was to actually live in Tudor England. Very intimate feel to the book. The characters are complicated, sympathetic, real.
