Introduction

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

“I’ve changed a bit since high school. Back then I said no to using and selling drugs. I washed on a normal basis and still had good credit.”

Introducing Laurie Notaro, the leader of the Idiot Girls’ Action-Adventure Club. Every day she fearlessly rises from bed to defeat the evil machinations of dolts, dimwits, and creepy boyfriends—and that’s before she even puts on a bra.

For the past ten years, Notaro has been entertaining Phoenix newspaper readers with her wildly amusing autobiographical exploits and unique life experiences. She writes about a world of hourly-wage jobs that require absolutely no skills, a mother who hands down judgments more forcefully than anyone seated on the Supreme Court, horrific high school reunions, and hangovers that leave her surprised that she woke up in the first place.

The misadventures of Laurie and her fellow Idiot Girls (“too cool to be in the Smart Group”) unfold in a world that everyone will recognize but no one has ever described so hilariously. She delivers the goods: life as we all know it.

Funny, lighthearted, easy read. Most everyone can identify with parts of the stories, if not the whole story or can think of someone that the stories remind them of. Nice break in between reading longer,... (read more)

I enjoyed the book. At first I didn't really relate to Laurie, I almost felt like the things she was saying about the other girls, that I was the "other girl"! But I as I got further into it, I could... (read more)

Very funny. Light, quick read.

"Chapters are separate stand alone vignettes of her life experiences."by Joleen R. (see profile) 07/28/08

Several members of our book club really hated the book and were disappointed in the book. The book does deal with the life of a 20 something protagonist -- so that did include some drinking... (read more)

"short stories from author's newspaper column"by Rhonda K. (see profile) 07/28/08

I was disappointed in the book overall. I was hoping for more funny action adventure. She is a good writer, funny and light but I found only a couple of the stories a little entertaining.
