Istanbul, midwinter. Poirot decides to take the Orient Express that at this time makes its route practically empty. The next morning, when he wakes up, he discovers that an American, named Ratcher, has been murdered. The murderer, no doubt, is one of the occupants among which are a proud Russian princess and an English governess. Poirot was present when Jane talked about "getting rid of" her husband, and has even been asked to help her get a divorce. Now, man has died.
